INTEGRATED PAYMENTS OVERVIEW

What are integrated payments and why are they important for veterinary clinics?

When software and payment processors aren’t integrated, they simply don’t work together; oftentimes the same data must be manually reentered across multiple systems, resulting in tedious, compromised workflows and costly human errors. But with an integrated payment processing solution, your practice management software sends the amount to be charged directly to your payment terminal and automatically records it in your software. This could save your practice as much as an hour and half of staff time every week (nearly 80 hours per year).1 Without integration, payment information is entered into both the payment device and the practice management software, creating duplicate entry and an increased likelihood of manual errors.

Are integrated payments available across all IDEXX practice management systems?

Yes, IDEXX offers integrated credit card processing solutions for Cornerstone, ezyVet, and Neo. 

Are contactless payment options available with IDEXX’s integrated payment processors?

Yes, we offer contactless payment options for Cornerstone, ezyVet, and Neo, including the ability to send clients a link to pay via email or text. 

If I have problems with IDEXX’s integrated payment solutions, who provides my practice with support?

IDEXX. Whether you have integrated payments with Cornerstone, ezyVet, or Neo, IDEXX stands behind those products and provides customer and technical support. 

If I want to learn more about integrated payments, where can I look?

What happens if I choose an unsanctioned payments integration solution?

Unsanctioned or unauthorized integrations generally mean that an external party is accessing your practice management software through a form of web or screen scraping (often through a browser extension) or an unsupported API. There are a number of risks associated with that:  

  1. IDEXX support is unable to assist with any unsanctioned integrations 
  2. Those connections are not stable and can be interrupted at any time 
  3. Software updates provided by your practice management software could interrupt the integration with your payment provider, limiting functionality or disrupting service.
  4. Unauthorized providers may extract more data than is absolutely necessary to conduct transactions; this is particularly risky when it comes to payment solutions.
  5. Technical connections that do not have IDEXX oversight could include malware, spyware, or other unsafe capabilities.

Who are the payment providers that integrate with Cornerstone?

IDEXX has two integrated payment providers for Cornerstone customers, Fiserv and Global. See the table below for associated product names.

Can I be confident about continued investment in Cornerstone Software?

Yes, absolutely. Cornerstone is the industry’s premier server-based practice management software, and it’s not going anywhere. IDEXX continues to invest in Cornerstone, including developing and supporting integrated payment solutions. Cornerstone 9.6 was just released, and version 9.7 is in active development. SEPTEMBER 2024 GLOBAL PAYMENTS COMMUNICATION

Who is Global Payments, Inc.?

Global Payments, Inc. (Global), is one of two payment processing vendors that integrate with Cornerstone to streamline credit card transactions at veterinary practices. 

Global contacted my practice, what was this about?

IDEXX received a copy of an email that was sent on September 11, 2024, from Global Payments to some IDEXX customers informing them that the integration between Global and IDEXX will no longer be supported after December 31, 2024. The integration they are referring to is between Cornerstone and Global’s OpenEdge product (AKA EdgeExpress or XCharge). 

Why am I hearing about this from Global instead of IDEXX?

IDEXX was not informed ahead of time about this communication, nor consulted on a transition plan for our mutual customers. What we do know is that Global Payments wrote that “the integration between Global Payments and IDEXX will no longer be supported after December 31, 2024.” We assume Global Payments means what they wrote so you will need to make a change before then.

In the email from Global, they referenced “Practice Management Bridge” – what is that?

Practice Management Bridge appears to be a processing platform either owned by or partnered with Global Payments. Unlike OpenEdge and Fiserv/CardConnect (the other payment processing solution integrated with Cornerstone), Practice Management Bridge is not supported by IDEXX, nor is it integrated with Cornerstone. 

Who is Rectangle Health/Practice Management Bridge?

Rectangle Health (the owner of Practice Management Bridge) is a healthcare-focused software provider. Rectangle Health does not have any relationship to IDEXX or Cornerstone.

If I stay with Global Payments, what happens?

Global stated that “the integration between Global Payments and IDEXX will no longer be supported after December 31, 2024.” We assume Global Payments means what they wrote so you will need to make a change before then or risk disruption of your payments service.

Does this communication have any impact on Vello, Pet Health Network Pro or other IDEXX products?

No. Global has no integration or connection to our communication platforms, including Pet Health Network Pro or Vello.
